The Russian Global Cycling Project (RGCP) is a uni- que sports project with a strongly pronounced social component which has been conceived, developed and created in 2008 thanks to heads of three Russian companies – Alexey Miller of Gazprom, Sergey Chemezov of Russian Technologies and Igor Makarov of ITERA.
The main objective of the Project is large-scale and universal development of cycling in Russia, begin- ning with youth sports schools and finishing with continental and professional Russian teams. Along with that, the Russian Global Cycling Project lays special emphasis on promoting Russia as a powerful sports country, one of the leaders of world sports community.
The Russian Global Cycling Project has been laun- ched by creation of the first Russian professional team with a license of the higher league of world cycling – ProTour. The team was given a name, which strongly associates with Russia – “KATUSHA”.
The new season of 2012 becomes the fourth from the beginning of creation of the Russian Global Cycling Project. It begins with new purposes, ambitions and development of new directions, both in sports and in social spheres. Having received invaluable experience, the RGCP continues its way to success for the blessing of development of Russian cycling.
